When we were booking this tour, we didn’t really think about weather hiccups. I was excited at the prospect of heading to Virginia Beach and slipping a beach day into the schedule. Goodness knows we’ll need the relaxation. Even after the first day of traveling, packing, playing a show and then passing out shortly after, I am exhausted, but I am no stranger to traveling for extended periods of time, so I am sure that I will adjust. But still, Irene… really? You are really not helping this situation. I am sure that hanging out over the ocean is way more fun…. go east!!!! Either way, we are probably staying in DC for one more night here and playing another show at Madam’s Organ or another venue. Check for updates!

Tour Date Announcement!!

So it’s finally here… tomorrow morning at 8am we are picking up the van to head on our Southern Soiree! We have a total of ten dates (with three in the works still). Booking our own tour was no easy feat but we were able to annoy, connect, hassle, hound, and convince as many people as possible to book this small-time Philadelphia band.

Jessi visits “Cops and Kids” Mural Arts Program

Last week, I had the pleasure of being a guest speaker at the Mural Arts program “Cops and Kids” based out of West Philadelphia. The program is a wonderful way for Cops and Kids to break down the stereotypes that come with a blue uniform and also adolescence. Sharing the story of overcoming my vocal surgery was indeed an exciting opportunity for me. It’s interesting how little we know about our voices (I didn’t know much until I had a problem). Teaching about the voice and then sharing mine was an exhilarating moment for me. By the end of the class, all of the women had jotted down some lyrics for me to put together into a song that will be written and then shared at the last class. Indeed an ambitious challenge, but what is life if we don’t challenge ourselves? Thanks for having me! I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Jessi Teich wants podcast with Demarcus Cousins

So last week I had the pleasure of speaking to the one and only Demarcus Cousins of the Bluegrass. I was able to chat with him for a minute or so on the KSR poscast. I am not sure how I got through because everyone and their mother was dialing up the station, but I did! Later in the day I found my webisode and another video with myself and Jack Etebar on the KSR wesbite. It seems as though they had looked me up and played the one and only “Mover and a Shaker” on the radio. Although they categorized me as a “kind of hot treehugger,” I believe that I got their attention. Next stop, Rupp arena to sing the National Anthem and teaming up with John Calipari and the Big Blue Nation to create a fundraiser for local and national charity organizations!

A Call To Arms

I pose a question…

What is music: pretty notes? killer songs? flawless harmonies? Take a closer look… What do you see? Ah yes, a business; cold, rigid, cut-throat. Just like anything else, music is a business, and with a business comes a system, and with a system comes an heir of competitiveness… and then with that comes advantage and when the advantage is who you know, you might want to try and get to know a lot of people. The more people that know you, the better your probability of success will be. But this is NOT a math lesson, no not even a life lesson… This is a call to arms.

I always knew the music business was something comparable to a blowfish. Yes, a happy fish, beautiful and mysterious, intriguing and familiar, swimming around in the ocean seemingly minding it’s own business. Yet, come close and it will inflate to mass proportions and stab you with it’s spikes into a bloody mess until you decide it’s not worth messing with and go back to minding YOUR OWN business. But if the blowfish doesn’t find you to be a threat, and starts to know you and even befriend you, you can swim with it (without being brutally stabbed). Now I know this is a crazy way of thinking about it, but when you need to find humor in a situation that seems impossible to conquer, I know you can sympathize with me.

I have recently become a witness (as I am sure all of you have as well) to Adele’s new single playing on the radio a sickeningly, massive amount of times. With this I applaud her amazing success in the American and European pop music scene. She is an inspiration and I hope that more artists like her emerge in the coming years. But I scratch my head when I think to myself, “Damn, I could do exactly what she is doing right now. How did she make that happen? Which doors did she knock on?” Information straight from wikipedia explained that her music was found on myspace. Lucky gal…

Again we move back to the idea of probability. I have 53 videos on youtube and a massive amount of other media available ready to be experienced online. With that being said, how many other artists exist in this world… well that’s like asking how many grains of sand exist in the world… it’s impossible to count. But which artists are truly trying to make it, and even further, who is ready for the challenge?

I digress..yet all in all, I do know that given the opportunity (and I assure you that only one needs to present itself) I will show the world what’s inside of me. This is not an ego trip, no not even a reason to toot my own horn. This is a call to arms to follow what I believe to be the reason I was born. I will not sacrifice what I love so that I can have a 401k, or stability in my life, or food (glorious food). I will savagely, restlessly, wholeheartedly pursue my passion until the day I have no breath left inside of me.

So, now I kindly and most humbly ask you, yes YOU…

Can’t tell a soul…
